Our Story

Inspired by the intent to provide a long-lasting decorative object, the thick, durable handmade paper is produced from 100% Kozo plant fiber and is embossed with the leaves of the same plant.

TREES OF LIGHT was inspired in 2010 by the desire to create an attractive and long-lasting alternative to the traditional Christmas tree that avoided the hassle of the clean-up as well as the waste of a fine pine tree! As a fine arts teacher, painter and horticulturist, I researched the Kozo plant paper with its heavy duty natural embossed relief pattern and texture of its leaves and branches that form their own unique design. The ‘trees’ we make are hand painted and come packaged flat in their own storage packet with a square block for mounting the tree and the LED.

The paper that the trees are made from is very thick, durable and 100% Kozo plant fiber. An interesting note is that the Kozo plant is used in a very small percentage for our copy paper  – for binding purposes! Without it the paper fibers would not bind.  The paper we use is embossed with its leaves and branches; thus it has a raised surface in parts. We paint them with acrylic paint which allows the ‘tree’ to be wiped off if dusty. Its color will not fade over time. The paper is so thick it is rip resistant.
